EASE OF DOING BUSINESS

  1. The Doing Business index is a ranking system established by the World Bank Group. In the DB index, ‘higher rankings’ indicate better, usually simpler, regulations for businesses.

  2. The research presents data for 190 economies and is ranked by the World Bank on 10 parameters wherein, “Getting Electricity” is also one of the parameter.

  3. For Getting Electricity World Bank measures the performance on the following parameters.
    • i.Procedures required to be completed for gettingli new electricity connection.
    • ii.Time taken to get electricity connection.
    • iii.Cost required for getting a new connection.
    • iv.Reliability of power supply and transparency of tariffs index.

  4. Among the chosen 190 countries, India ranked 63rd in Doing Business 2020, World Bank Report. In India, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, GoI in partnership with World Bank started an ambitious program for reforms at State level i.e., Business Reforms Action Plan. Some of the reforms circulated as a part of Doing Business Action Plan for effective implementation are also covered under BRAP 2019.

  5. During 2019, World Bank proposed Bengaluru to be included in the country ranking mechanism of “Doing Business 2021”.

BESCOM measures

  1. BESCOM is happy to extend EoDB (Ease of Doing Business) services for applicants applying New Connection for Educational institutions, Hospitals, Warehouses Commercial, EV charging stations & Industries in Bengaluru city for LT applications from 50 KW up to 150 KW and for HT applications fron 25 KVA to 200 KVA.

  2. As a part of these service reforms, applicant is entitled to receive new connection within 15 working days where RoW permission is required and within 7 days where RoW permission is not required.

  3. Online facility is provided to the applicant for new electricity connection and submission of Documents and payments at the time of registration.

  4. Following are the 3 procedures to complete new connection.
    • • Online application Registration
    • • Field inspection for technical feasibility
    • • Electrical Infrastructure work completion & meter installation
